Libbi Shtisel gets paid for her writing at the newspaper and reveals to Borach, the editor, that Yoilish Vermout isn’t her cousin, as she had previously claimed, but someone she had intended to marry. Borah feels tricked and hurt. Libbi and Yoilish meet on the tram again by chance and exchange umbrellas.
Meanwhile, Libbi’s father, Nuchem, goes to talk to Yoilish’s father, Herschel Vermout, and realizes that Vermout opposes the match because of Nuchem’s past. Vermout also visits Baumbach’s restaurant and asks them to re-open because his customers need their famous kugel.
Yoilish requests his good friend Borach’s advice about Libbi and tells him that even though his parents want to set him up with someone else, Libbi’s still the one on his mind. Borach hints to Yoilish that he’s interested in Libbi himself.
Nuchem and Penina can’t understand why Penina’s kugels don’t taste as good as they used to. Following a story Penina tells, Nuchem doubles the amount of sugar in the recipe and wonder of wonders, the kugel is, once again, the tastiest kugel in Antwerp.
Libbi tries to call Borach but finds out that his mother died. She goes to pay her respects and they make up. Later she finds out through the newspaper that Yoilish Vermout has gotten engaged to someone else.
