Kugel, the captivating prequel to Shtisel, takes viewers on an emotional journey into the lives of Nuchem and Libbi, father and daughter, set in Antwerp’s Orthodox Jewish community. Nuchem, played brilliantly by Sasson Gabay, is a witty jewelry dealer whose charm lies as much in his storytelling as in his trade. His daughter, Libbi, portrayed by Hadas Yaron, is a seminar teacher yearning to make her mark in the Orthodox literary world.

Nuchem’s life takes an unexpected turn when his favorite kugel restaurant closes after the owner’s sudden death. His attempts to support the grieving widow, Pnina, draw him into the world of the restaurant—and perhaps into something deeper. Meanwhile, Libbi faces her own challenges, from her parents’ impending divorce to their obsessive attempts to find her the "perfect" match.

But love doesn’t follow convention. When Libbi meets a charmingly odd Orthodox young man on the tram, their connection defies societal expectations, sparking a romance filled with humor and poignancy.

Kugel is a story of resilience, love, and the narratives we weave about ourselves and others. With stellar performances and rich storytelling, it’s a feast for the heart and soul.
