Small World is a captivating and moving documentary that delves into the lives of dwarfs attending the annual World Conference for small people in San Francisco. The conference brings together 1,600 dwarfs from all over the world who spend a week together sharing their experiences and learning from each other. Our film follows the conference and its experiences from the point of view of one of its participants, Aaron Zilberberg, a 34-year-old dwarf who is 120 meters tall.
Aaron is a fascinating character with big plans and dreams. He aspires to become a pilot, runs a stand-up show, and sails yachts. He is eloquent and painfully frank, and his big dream is to find love. We get to know Aaron and his friends, who encourage him to find a bride during the conference. Aaron was born in Paris and raised by his parents to be the most educated, confident, and knowledgeable person so that he could deal with a world that doesn't always know how to treat exceptions.
Through Aaron's experiences, we explore what it means to be a dwarf and how society reflects on them. We get to know other conference attendees, their stories, and their challenges. Small World raises important questions about how society views people with differences, and how these people navigate their lives.
