Though momentum was threatened by the global pandemic, the U.S. team quietly worked to build trust with countries willing to participate in the initiative. Announcement of peace agreements between Israel and United Arab Emirates and Bahrain took the international community by complete surprise. It required great courage and mutual respect to reach the historic moment at the White House in September 2020 where the first Abraham Accords were signed.
