Six years after the Six Day War, Menashe is still deeply traumatized by his experiences as a soldier. He withdraws from society and spends hours aimlessly driving around in his red pickup. His young wife Daphna and their 10-year old son Shlomi suffer under his silence and rejection. At a time when PTSD is still not recognized as a medical condition, Daphna struggles to get help from the military. When the Yom Kippur War breaks out in 1973 and Menashe is sent again to the battlefield, his family threatens to finally fall apart.
